Ditto, Dido!

After a 15 year break, the English singer Dido is on tour to promote her newest album Still On My Mind. Last might, June 19, was New York City’s turn to host her. The occasion also marks a celebration of 20 years of her career, which started is this very city.

The performance starts with the song “Hurricanes”, from the new album. The audience is already familiar with the new songs, it’s a great energy! Dido is a very charismatic personality and she’s very engaging with the crowd.

Dido during a performance at Terminal 5, music venue in New York City, on June/ 2019.

Of course she couldn’t not play any of her most famous hits: “Life for Rent”, “Here with Me” (which is part of the “Love Actually” movie soundtrack), and “Thank You”. For this last song she invited the fans to “feel free to sing any of the words”.

Dido distinguishes in the hall of the great English singers of our time, mostly known, Adele, Amy Winehouse, and Ellie Goulding. She has a very personal style, very serene, though the relationship break up theme is recurring in her songs. Also, the electronic element is very remarkable in her music.

The new songs are also amazing, they will definitely mark the summer of 2019. The highlights are “Hell after This”, “Take you Home”, and “Mad Love”.

Of course, there’s no concert without an encore. For this moment, Dido reserved “Have to Stay”, which she wrote for her son, the reason why she went on a hiatus for a few years as she explains. Lastly, according to my count, the one song for her left to sing was “White Flag”. And voila, here’s the last song of the evening.

My friend and I left the concert with the feeling of to repeat the experience. Hopefully she can return soon to New York City. For now, her tour continues in the US, then she will head to South America before going back to Europe. For info on upcoming performances, check on her website:
