Dear reader,
I know it’s been a while since we last showed up here. A lot has happened to the world ranging from a deadly global pandemic to its survival and all manifestations of human activities including culture, which is the focus of this blog.
I’ll start this post though with a recap of what happened in New York and a preview for the upcoming season in a world post pandemic. Now that restrictions are finally completely lifted, we can start (and already have been) enjoying happenings everywhere.
2024 has marked the year that WUNY has returned to Broadway. So far, we’ve seen quite a few shows such as Illinoise (now closed) and Suffs among others.
We were also able to return to museums. For instance, we were able to catch the Whitney Museum’s biennial before it closed in August as well as Paul McCartney photographs final days at the Brooklyn Museum.
Other than that, we’ve been enjoying a lot of time outside by the ocean in order to stock up on the vitamin D in our systems for the upcoming season 😉
Right now, we want to focus on the change of seasons and how this reflects on New Yorkers behavior. For sure, the grueling sensation of heat and humidity won’t be missed in addition to the occasional misbehaved tourist who sometimes plagues our beautiful city (if you are one of these folks, please change your attitude, nobody needs that energy).
It seems that the locals are coming back now to the city from vacations either by the ocean or overseas (or elsewhere). Everything seems busier in this preview of autumn season 🍁. Although the official equinox only happens in a couple of weeks, one can already feel a snap of crispness in the weather in addition to slightly shorter days. Side note, trees are still green as we await the time of the year for orange/brown appreciation.
The back to school moment adds a layer of expectation for hope even if one is not a student themselves, particularly if everywhere from gyms to supermarkets and public transit gets more crowded.
Overall, we at WUNY are looking forward to more cultural activities in the upcoming months in order to share with our trusty audience of loyal readers. We hope you all have a wonderful season!
